        我要說好香港故事。人生中有歡喜，難免亦常有淚，離散、相聚，人之常情。北宋期間香港錦田一帶已有原住民定居，南京條約以來，華洋雜處，從古至今人口結構多元。例如先父在日本侵華期間由廣州途難到香港；年少時我常跟父親出席『旅港海南同鄉會』晚宴，但這個『旅港』已是一輩子的事；婚後女兒出世，我好不容易才適應家中多了位菲律賓家傭，但漸漸發現大小家務少不了她；現在我結識了不少年青人，他們生活言談舉止跟土生香港人無異，但他們卻是自1990年代的第一代跨境學童。

        香港人從來不是單一族群，我不會勉強自己去同意別人的價值取向和生活習慣，然而我卻肯定每個願意在這裡生活的人都為著這個社會作出貢獻。透過尊重、諒解、交流、學習維護了社會的共融和個人的價值。人生總會有對錯，總有高低起跌，我認為故事劇本冇分好與壞，故事要講得打動人心，不在於花言巧語，只求實事求是，不忘初心，我相信多元共融的社會樂見單純樸實的聲音。

        I seek to tell well "Hong Kong stories". In life, joy and sorrow coexist—parting and reunion are the ordinary conditions of being human. Indigenous inhabitants had already settled in Kam Tin during the Northern Song dynasty; since the Treaty of Nanking, Hong Kong has evolved into a space of intercultural convergence. 

        My passed father fled from Guangzhou to Hong Kong during the Japanese invasion of China. In my youth, I often accompanied him to the annual banquets of the Hainanese Travellers Association of Hong Kong. Yet, the term “Travellers” in that association’s name was, for many, not a temporary condition but a lifelong destiny. After marriage and the birth of my daughter, I initially found it difficult to adjust to the presence of a Filipino domestic helper at home, but I gradually came to realize how indispensable she was to the household’s daily functioning. Today, I have come to know many young people whose speech, demeanour, and habits are indistinguishable from those of native-born Hongkongers—yet they belong to the first generation of cross-border students who began arriving in the 1990s.

        Hong Kong people have never constituted a monolithic ethnicity. I do not compel myself to conform to others’ values or lifestyles; nonetheless, I affirm that everyone who chooses to make a life here contributes to the shaping of this society. Through respect, empathy, dialogue, and learning, we sustain both social cohesion and individual dignity.

        In life, there are inevitably rights and wrongs, rises and falls. I believe that a story’s worth does not lie in moral polarization, nor in rhetorical flourish, but in sincerity and truthfulness. To tell a story well is not to embellish it, but to remain faithful to one’s origins and principles. In a plural and inclusive society, the most beautiful narratives are often those spoken in simple, honest voices.
